Message from the Chair of Chailey Parish Council

Covid 19 poses a major threat to our nation, both in terms of public health and of future economic development and prosperity. It poses a huge challenge to businesses, especially to small firms. It also poses a major threat to individual lives and to families’ happiness, welfare and prosperity. All levels of government have a role to play in helping to meet these challenges, even the Parish Council, although inevitably, our role will necessarily be limited.

East Sussex County Council - Coronavirus Information and Support

A message from Keith Glazier, leader of the County Council to all East Sussex residents. Every one of us in East Sussex has been affected by coronavirus. It has brought drastic changes to our daily lives and, in some cases, great sadness. My thoughts are with everyone coping with grief and worry at this unprecedented time. As leader of the county council, I’d also like to focus on what we can do to help each other in East Sussex. We have brilliant health and social care staff putting themselves on the front-line each day to help the sick and the vulnerable. We have dedicated emergency services, teachers, delivery drivers, shop staff and thousands more all helping to keep us protected and supplied. And we have volunteers taking on more work for their communities in this time of need. A heartfelt thank-you to them all.

Covid-19 Emergency Measures for Allotment Holders

The government is presently advising the population to stay at home and practice social distancing, whilst being allowed to take one form of exercise a day. If working your allotment is to carry on being seen as legitimate exercise then it is imperative that plot-holders follow all the guidelines, allotment sites are as risky as anywhere else. We think that now is the time to consider working your plot in isolation i.e. not with household members and if you can stay away for a few weeks to do so.

June Update from Sharon Davy, District Councillor

Like so many others who either suffer from health problems, or live with a person on medication - or are elderly, I welcome the June 1st first tentative step to slowly, and very cautiously, return to our lives before the virus pandemic, whilst knowing nothing will be same again. In my own household, we shall wear masks when we cautiously go shopping.

Large Fly-Tipping Chailey Common

This message comes from Councillor Sharon Davy: At the beginning of April, a Chailey resident sent me photos of an atrocious fly tip on Chailey Common with the name, Burgess Hill address and mobile included. I immediately sent it as a matter of emergency to the head of refuse and recycling and action was taken. It’s hard to believe anyone in this national crisis would dream of dumping a van load of rubbish on a beautiful Site of Special Scientific Interest.
